The main objectives of the institute are to help the development of the engineering industries in Iraq by developing the industrial products, following these steps:

·        Improving the quality and increasing the quantity.

·        Helping industrial companies to solve their technical problems.

·        Up-grading the knowledge about the importance of good quality.

·        Habilitation of companies to attempt ISO 9000.

·        enhancing engineering production technology , tool design and tool manufacturing capabilities

·        Prepare designs for new products and develop the design process of current products.

·        Developing the national resources by developing the industrial production according to the international safety and quality measurements and standards.

·        Keeping an eye on the industrial materials or the imported materials and its compliance to the international standards.

·        Limitation against industrial and commercial forgery.

·        Meeting the Iraqi market needs, regarding the quality and quantity engineering inspection, meeting.

SIEI has very active roll in industry development through services provided to all sister state companies in the ministry , in addition to other ministries & the private sector firms . Main activities offered by SIEI are:-

·        Design of parts & articles, development of products manufactured in the ministry‘s companies.

·        Testing & exam of all row materials & minerals utilized in the production lines, seeking for alternative equivalents through international standards.

·        Design, fabrication, testing of all kinds of moulds & dies in the models workshop.

·        Design, inspection of technology and production routes for any product.

·        Design of quality control systems for production lines, application, and exam, standard applied for products.

·        Application of technical inspection for all mechanical works, application of welding standard, boilers exam, production lines and cranes.

·        Application of quality assurance procedure on final product in all companies, making comparisons to equalents available in local market, issuance of quality assurance certificates.

·        providing of required feasibility studies

·        Software programs preparation in the field of computer applications in industrial field, in addition to perfect usage of internet and supply & installation of all types of computer systems.

·        Technical seminars & courses preparation in specified fields for staff and employees of the ministry & other ministries.

·        Application of scientific technical researches, stay of technical problems & defects n product & production line, furnishing of information's required to beneficiary.

·        Joint venture application with other state companies, private sector companies, to accomplish projects execution.

·        Importation of spare parts to the contracted beneficiaries.

·        Accomplishment of balancing for any kind of rotating article, fans, armatures, crancks, electrical rotating parts ,gears ,inside SIEI and by portable balancing system outside SIEI .

·        Inspection of technical security for al types of valves.

·        Qualification and inspection of welders, implementation of technology means for different welding jobs.

·        Fire fitting systems inspection, water pumping stations testing .air gas compressing systems exams.
